3.A report on price-hike.
High prices of essential commodities
Forhad Hossain
kushtia,26October 2013.
The prices of daily
commodities are very high. The prices are increasing by leaps and bounds. Now,
it has become a common problem. The prices are sky-high for the common and poor
people because they have only fixed income. The price of rice, oil, vegetables,
meat and fish, medicine, cloth etc has already gone up and it is going up more.
All classes of people are suffering from this problem more or less. Specially,
the poor people are the worst sufferers and are compelled to starve. Some
employees and workers said that they are eating just one time in a day in stead
of three times. There are some factors behind it. Low productivity, population
explosion, bad transportation, natural calamities and corruption are mainly
responsible for it. Besides, the dishonest businessmen are creating this
problem for their own interest. People are being restless and are being
involved in various crimes. So, the people demand that the government should
monitor the market and punish the dishonest businessmen who are intentionally
doing this.
4. A report on slum-dwellers
Suppose, you are a
reporter of a reputed daily. You have interviewed many slum dwellers about
their ways of life.
Miserable condition of slum-dwellers
Rakibul Islam,Dhaka ,25 October2013:
Slum- dwellers are the most neglected people of Dhaka
city. They live in this city in a very miserable and pathetic condition. They
are compelled to live here because they live below the poverty line and most of
them are illiterate. Moreover, the life of Dhaka
is very expensive. So, the people who are poor, are unable to live in the
better places of Dhaka . Generally, slum-dwellers are day labourers, garment
workers, rickshaw pullers, domestic workers, helpers of vehicles, pick-pockets,
thieves, hijackers and kidnappers etc. In fact, they are the lower class of
people of the city. Poverty is their daily companion and so, they become
deprived of their basic needs. It is known from many slum-dwellers that
diseases are their permanent companions because their dwelling places are very
dirty and polluted. They are compelled to take unhygienic food and drink
polluted water. Even, they do not get any proper treatment. Most of them lead
sub-human life and so, they failed to manage square meals. Sometimes, they are
to take rejected food. Because of illiteracy and unconsciousness, they are
becoming terrorists and addicted to drug. The slum dwellers demand that the
government should take proper steps to develop their condition.
5.A report on drug
addiction.
Drug Addiction
Mominul Islam,Dhaka ,25 October,2013 : Drug
addiction is one of the greatest problems in our country. The number of drug
addicts is increasing in Bangladesh
day by day. It is harmful enough to destroy the future of a country. There are
some reasons behind drug addiction. Unemployment, frustration and availability
of it are the main causes of drug addiction. It is reported that phensydyl,
heroine, cocaine and yaba are easily available
in our country and that is why, many people are being addicted.
Unemployed people, frustrated young boys and girls are being addicted to drugs.
Dishonest businessmen and greedy politicians are getting benefits of this
profitable business. By taking bribe, the police remain silent. Undoubtedly, it
is a very dangerous problem because it is causing some serious problems in our
country, such as hijacking, robbery, stealing, killing etc. It is a great
threat to a country like Bangladesh .
So, the government and the conscious people should come forward to solve this
problem without any more delay.
6.A report on a village
fair
A village fair at Khoksa
Atikur Rahman,Khoksa,25 October
2013 :A village
fair was held by the side of Gorai river at khoksa. This is a traditional,
famous and regular fair. This time also, thousands of people attended this
age-old fair. This fair continued for at least ten days. The stalls of the fair
were decorated beautifully. Circus was the main attraction of this fair because
there were tigers, lions, deer, elephants, bears, horses and monkeys in the
circus. These animals entertained people of all ages particularly the children.
The other attractions of the fair were puppet show, jatra pala, merry-go-round
and magic show. Various kinds of toys, handicrafts, tapestries, bamboo made
goods, balloons, earthly pots etc attracted all classes of people. In a word,
the fair was like a big market of buying and selling. Gambling was the
mid-night entertainment for the gamblers. This fair was a real source of
entertainment for the visitors of this fair. People from different parts of the
country visited this fair as before. So, the gathering of the people of all
classes made this fair successful.
7 . A report on
deforestation
Shohag Ahmed,Dhaka ,25 October 2013 : Deforestation
has become a great problem in our country. Trees are our best friends and help
us in various ways but it is a matter of great concern that many people are
cutting down trees
indiscriminately. According to the climatologists, there should be 25 percent
forests of the total land but there are only 16 percent forests in Bangladesh . So, Bangladesh is already at environmental risk. Trees maintain our
ecological balance. They take away harmful carbon dioxide and produce oxygen
for us. They save us from various kinds of natural disasters. It can be said
ironically that trees are our friends but we are their enemies. Moreover, we
are cutting our own nose and so, infection is a must. By cutting trees
indiscriminately, the people of this country are inviting danger. We will lose
our green Bangladesh and the lower parts of this country will go under
water. Disasters like Tsunami ,sidr, Narges, cyclones and such like must hit
our country again and again. We should ensure a better future for the future
generation. So we should plant two trees if we require to cut one tree.
8. A report on Ekushey
Book Fair
Ekushe Book Fair

of well-decorated book stalls and there were almost all kinds of books such as
story books, adventure books, novels, poetry, comics, computer books and so on.
People of all classes and ages visited the fair. Many famous and new authors
gathered in the fair and a lot of readers surrounded them for autographs. Many
university students were in a festive mood. Children were enjoying like Eid. It
was also a meeting place of old friends. Many boys and girls went to the fair

which I remember as yet.
9. A report on
load-shedding
Severe load-shedding across the country
The Daily Independent,
Stuff reporter,27 October 2013 : Serious
load -shedding is occurring all over the country for the last few days. People
are restless and are breaking down the offices of electricity all over the
country. Digital Bangladesh is an utopian scheme without electricity. .
Electricity is the driving force of a country and the pre-condition of any kind
of development but it has become a regular incident in our country. The demand
of electricity is increasing rapidly but the production of electricity is not
increasing. Because of less production of electricity, the authorities become
helpless and are feeling the pressure of the public. Mills and factories come
to a stand-still, students are compelled to study on candle light, businessmen
are suffering a great loss, farmers cannot irrigate their fields, fresh food
and vegetables kept in the refrigerators get rotten and many patients are dying
unexpectedly and so on. So, not only the government but also the general people
should come forward to solve this problem. The general people should not misuse
electricity and the government should take proper steps to produce electricity.
